We were on the road in Geelong and we received a call from a client that was upset about the level of white pet hair and dander in their one year old station wagon. I assured them that there are many ways to remove pet hair and that KnuWhizz were in the area and could help them with the problem. This was our fourth Geelong Upholstery Cleaning pet hair removal job.
Twenty minutes later we arrived at the residence. The white station wagon was literally covered in pet hair and the carpet mats and car upholstery looked very soiled. From experience, I myself have a large forty kilogram dog who literally covers everything with her shedding fur. It can become a problem. In fact, its not really that hard to remove at all.
There are many ways to remove this hair that you may or may not know about:-
Pet Hair Removal Tips
Using Water
Water is by far the easiest method to remove pet hair. Start by soaking your hand in water. Using the palm of your hand rub the couch or carpet in a downward motion. The pet hair will become heavier due to the water and be attracted to your hand.
Another way is to very slightly damped a sponge. Using this sponge rub the carpet or upholstery. The pet hair will clump up making it easier to pick off.
Using Sticky Grip
Either using a sticky roller, masking or strong tape, you can place this over the carpet and upholstery. The pet fur will stick to the surface of the tape or roller. This can be very effective for carpet but be careful when using on thin cotton upholstery that is worn. Care should be taken not to rip the tape off too quickly or roughly.
Using Magnetic Attraction
Using either a rubber broom or rubber sole shoes, you can drag them along the carpet and you will see the pet fur build up into small piles. This can be practical for carpet but not for upholstery.
Abstinence
Of course one of the most effective ways is to prevent your pets from sitting or jumping up onto your couch or chair in the first place. Of course this is easier said than done. An inside animal would be hard to turn into an outside animal.
Vacuuming
By using a combination of the above and also vacuuming you can remove almost 100% of the pet hair. Depending on how much time you have it can be a worthwhile effort. For this job it took us about two and a half hours of which the majority was pet fur vacuuming and removal. A suggested vacuum cleaner for this job might be PacVac SuperPro 700 Vacuum Cleaner
